VT

In class we were given an article about how Virginia Tech students were using blogs and myspace to communicate with loved ones and tell them that they were ok after the tragic shooting. After reading the article it reminded me of an announcement that was put on facebook that asked for all Virginia Tech students to update their status to let their friends know they were alright. This is just another way that students were able to use this new technology to let their friends and family know that they are ok.

As someone who had 7 of my high school friends in their senior year at VT, I can tell you that facebook was definitely a blessing. It was a easy way for them to let us know that they were okay without having to call everyone and their third cousin. I guess social networking sites have their humanitarian perks too!

Maybe people studying abroad or those in the military should be given blogs or accounts on social networks so they can post their status and write mass letters to family/friends. It has to be an effective and cheaper alternative to individual calls...something to think about. :)

Yea one of my old friends from home went to VT and it was easy to check her status and see that she was ok.
